Three key governance votes on Flare and Songbird

As the Flare team focuses on shipping everything in 2024, we are pleased to announce three important governance proposals for the Flare and Songbird networks.

If the community approves the three proposals, they will enable:

  1. The launch of FTSO Scaling on Flare and Songbird, which will support the use of up to 1000 data feeds on each network, and for next to no cost for dapps (just minimal gas).
  2. The implementation of the new Flare Systems Protocol on Flare and Songbird, which unifies the smart contracts for validation, data submission, rewards and more across all the native data protocols. This will pave the way for future updates including Fast FTSO.
  3. Strengthening the security and stability of the State Connector on Songbird to prepare for the launch of FAssets.

STP.06: Add Support for the Flare Systems Protocol and FTSO Scaling to Songbird

STP.06 includes three key elements the community needs to be aware of. A governance vote is necessary because these updates require a hard fork of the network.

  1. Add a new protocol, called the Flare Systems Protocol (FSP), which will unify and support all other Flare protocols. This will further enshrine them at the network layer, and, for example, enable a single rewards transaction vs needing to claim staking and delegation rewards separately.
  2. Introduce FTSO Scaling, an improved version of the current FTSO protocol that will allow the implementation of up to 1000 data feeds, with updates every 90 seconds instead of the current 3 minutes.
  3. Update the list of signers that define the default set of attestation providers for the State Connector protocol.

FIP.06: Add Support for the Flare Systems Protocol and FTSO Scaling to Flare

Although the voting process is being run simultaneously for time efficiency, FIP.06 will require the prior approval of STP.06 before implementation.

The contents of the proposal are the same as STP.06: the addition of Flare Systems Protocol, the launch of FTSO Scaling, and the update of the State Connector signers list.

SIP.02: Calibrate the State Connector’s performance and security on Songbird

This is a separate proposal not connected to STP.06 or FIP.06. If approved by the community, it will enable updates to the State Connector on Songbird necessary for the launch of FAssets.
